We have received several requests for help from daughters and sons of former Wehrmacht soldiers who were engaged in the Médoc in the last days of the Second World War. What happened to their fathers after the surrender of the fortress Gironde-Sud? Where were the German soldiers who survived the Allied bombing held in captivity? Apart from the mine clearance work, where and what else were they engaged in? Who would have information about people and places immediately at the end of the war? Who would have heard of events concerning German prisoners? Who knows of French people who were in contact with prisoners?
We thank you in advance for any information, even if it seems unimportant (testimonies, letters in your possession, objects, souvenirs…). Contact us at: wordpress@pga-medoc.fr. And if you live in the Médoc, we will be happy to visit you, to listen to your testimony or to discover your documents. From the information collected, our goal is to establish a documentation on the situation of the German prisoners of war after the surrender of the fortress Gironde-Sud, in order to make it available to interested persons. Of course, personal information will be treated confidentially upon request.
